Time flies....

Wow.
Time does indeed fly when one is busy.

It has been almost 2 weeks since I last blogged.
Well, it has been tiring so far after I come home from work each day.
To blog at work is near-impossible, especially when there are so many tasks to attend to, and meetings to go to.
And that is despite the fact that I have a really lovely supporting officer who works hard to accommodate my needs.
Not to mention that I am sharing her services with 2 other colleagues!

I have more or less settled into my job now.
In fact, it feels as though I've been working at this organisation for longer than the 1+ months since I've started!
Every single working day has been busy so far, but the sense of satisfaction of having completed the tasks I set for myself each day (without having to worry about work after I reach home) is definitely great!

The colleagues within my small department are getting along like a house on fire too.
There is definitely synergy amongst the few of us.
And the (only) 2 gentlemen in my department definitely live up to being known as that, i.e. gentlemen!
Pulling out a chair for me at a conference room, holding the door, etc. are not acts that I am graced with unless it's someone who wants to impress me for one reason or another previously.
And I can safely say that my 2 colleagues are most certainly not out to impress me.
Rather, it seems as if it is second nature to them.
Having said that, they were both educated overseas, much like me.
So perhaps that has partially something to do with it...

OK, my eyes need their rest now.
Will try to blog more often.
Bye for now!

I am back!

Short of another few days and I would have not blogged for a month.
My regular readers have written in separately, asking me why I have not blogged.
Well, I started on a new job almost a month ago.
Although it has not consumed me like the previous one, I had to ensure that I settle into my job as fast as I could.
I was told that the job could be demanding, but so far, I have great help and advice from fellow colleagues within the same department.
So thanks to them, I have more or less sorted myself out now.
A colleague from another department said I had adapted fast, since it had hardly been a month for me.
He said he had to take 3 months before he was able to do the same.
Then again, his job responsibilities and mine are unique.
So based on that reason, we can't really compare.
Not that his job or mine is necessarily easier! :o)

My life has always been pretty interesting, be it on a job or outside of working hours.
So I shall try to challenge my brain to recall the more news-worthy to put on today's blog.

I had to learn everything from scratch, and I was ok about it.
Some of the things I had to do initially were menial stuff, but it reminded me pretty much of what I did while I was teaching some years back.
Now that I am taking on more work to do (splitting workload with another colleague), I am already seeing that it is going to be fun.
Fun, because the organisation I'm working at is still expanding, and it's lovely to be in the thick of things at this exploratory stage.
Since my department is small (but expanding too), seeing it grow will be another fun thing to be part of.
I was the third member of staff in the department, before another new colleague joined us 2 weeks later.
From what I know, we'll have at least 4 more joining us, and there could be more at the end of the year!
I have been told that I will get my own supporting officer to report to me, and the thought is daunting.
This is because I am responsible for the development and welfare of this new personnel in time to come.
And this is something I have never done before, as all my previous jobs were essentially multi-tasking ones.

I have been able to leave my office on the dot for quite a few days.
On other days, it was later, but not too much later.
But then, I have to wake up at 5+ am every morning to get ready for work.
So at the end of each day, I would be exhausted.
Good thing is: I have not needed to bring work home to do.
What a great change from all my other previous jobs!

Oh, and by the way, I got a huge office.
So huge that even other colleagues have made this remark each time they dropped by to say hello. :o)
Again, it makes a change from not being given one especially on my last couple of jobs!
I have left it bare, and so far, am liking it this way.
But other colleagues have made the comment that I should have more things in.

Well, to start with, I have been given a small, brand new fridge as a "good luck" present.
In fact, there were 2 friends who both wanted to get me a fridge for my office!
In the end, one beat the other to it (although the other one suggested it first).
Right now, there's nothing in it.
But there will be soon, when the friend who ended up being beaten to getting me the fridge is visiting this coming week.
He will be visiting me at my office after work hours, to have some drinks and food.
He's not the first friend to visit though - I think since I started on this job, 2 have already visited.

I will also be getting a swanky, top-end PC too, with a 17" monitor.
My senior manager made sure I had that - to accommodate graphics too - for my job.
He and I will need to work on innovative ideas to present content materials.
Ideas that other organisations do not have as yet.
I have already contributed one idea that he thought was good.
Let's hope he hasn't claimed that idea as his own.
We shall wait and see.
If I were to lose the credit for that idea, that's not a problem for me, as I am the one with lots of ideas, and the ideas are in my head.
If I don't share all other of my ideas out, who's to know?
At the most, I could put them down on paper and send it in as my own proposal.
So as you can see, I've got it all planned.
Then again, my senior manager seems to be a nice, honest guy to work with.
But looks can be deceiving.
SO, we shall still wait and see. :o)

My sweet someone is back now (since last Thursday).
But he's flying off to Jakarta tomorrow and won't be back till the 12th.
And then he's going to fly out to Taiwan again on the 16th!
At least he managed to visit me at my home (partially to wish my parents a happy Chinese lunar new year too) on Thursday night.
I was worried prior to his return that the long absence could have lessened either of our feelings for each other.
Well, I was glad it didn't. :o)

I've only got in a couple of hours ago from an extra-long treatment at the Spa.
And that included a relaxing massage.
Am probably going to sleep like a baby tonight...
